All infant aged pupils are currently eligible for free school dinners in England. 80% of our pupils enjoy a school dinner each day at The Brigg and the food is fresh, varied and tasty. We can easily cater for food allergies and special dietary requirements - just let us know and complete a special diet form.
Our current dinner menu is available on the Derbyshire County Council website, click here to see the menu.
Other children choose to bring healthy packed lunches from home, including things such as;
-a bread roll or sandwich with filling such as ham, cheese, spreads, jam
-crackers or crisps
-cold rice or pasta salad
-a piece / pot of fruit or veggie sticks
-one plain dessert such as a yogurt, jelly, chocolate biscuit or small cake (remember a spoon if needed)
-a drink such as juice or extra water
The following are NOT allowed in packed lunches please; nuts, hazelnut spread, peanut butter, sweets, chocolate bars (except for chocolate biscuits such as club, penguin, kit kat), hot products (e.g. soup), fizzy drinks or glass bottles.
Although all infant pupils receive free school meals, some children are eligible for free school meals at junior and secondary schools too, saving £400 per year per child in the future! Our school also receives extra Pupil Premium funding of £1345 a year per child from the government for each child on free school meals. We use this to give your child extra support in and out of the classroom, free uniform (every summer term) and other benefits. See our Pupil Premium page for more details.
If you get any of these benefits, you could be eligible for Pupil Premium:
You will not be eligible if you are claiming Working Tax Credit.
To apply go to the DCC application form here, or email any queries to headteacher@brigg.derbyshire.sch.uk
All information will be treated with sensitivity and confidentiality according to our Privacy Policy.
A fresh fruit or veggie snack is provided free of charge for all the children every day.
The DFE provide free milk to all 4 year olds. Our school also provides free milk for Pupil Premium children each day, if they wish.
Please go to the Cool Milk weblink below to order milk shortly before your child turns 5, as the DFE stop their supply on the child's birthday, unfortunately.
Parents who wish for their older child to have milk should also register with 'Cool milk' at www.coolmilk.com
