Welcome to Year 1 - Gillmor Class and Warhol Class

Term 1 September 2020

We are so pleased to welcome all the boys and girls back to school.  We hope you like our new class names, which the children voted for.  We will be learning about these artists this term.

If your child has any symptoms of Coronavirus your household will have to self isolate and have a test.  If your child is well enough during this time, they should complete their home learning as outlined below please. The following links will help your child keep up to date with their school work if they are off school.

Reading:  Please try and read daily by selecting a book at your child's level  on

Phonics: Please help your child to practise their phonics

Writing:  This term our topic title is Are my toys more fun than my Grandma and Grandad's toys?

Task 1 - Can you find out about a toy that your Grandma or Grandad might have played with? What does it look like? What is it made from?  How does it work? Is is similar to a toy you might play with today? Draw and label a picture of it.

Task 2 – In school we have read the story of Dogger by Shirley Hughes.  Imagine what it would be like to lose your own favourite toy. Write a story about what happened. How did you lose it? How does it make you feel? Where did you find it again? Who helped you? Remember to include a beginning, middle and end in your story.

Spelling:  Please keep up to date by practising the weekly spellings. You can find these on Class Dojo each week. Please get in touch if you need help accessing this.

Handwriting: It is important for your child to learn how to form letters correctly using a pre-cursive style. Please can your child keep practising each of the letters by using the videos in this link to help  them.

Maths:  You can find the daily maths lesson on Please message your child's class teacher on Class Dojo to find out which lessons your child needs to complete while they are off school.  This will ensure they cover the same content which is being taught in class so will not fall behind.

RE: We are learning about who is a Christian and what do they believe

Please upload your child's work into their portfolio on Class Dojo.  You need your child's login to be able to do this – please message your class teacher if you would like us to send you this.

We understand how difficult it is to home school so we appreciate all your hard work and support in ensuring your child keeps up to date with their learning.  Please send us a message on Class Dojo if you have any questions or need further support.

Many thanks

Miss Naylor and Mrs Trimmings
