This term in Summer, our topic question is ... Where would you rather live, the United Kingdom or Australia?

You can find out more about our topic by clicking on the knowledge mat for this term.

We will be:

  • Identifying and naming a variety of common animals found in Australia.
  • Learning about the adventures of Captain James Cook and his discoveries.
  • Discovering more about important Australian landmarks, including Uluru and comparing the city of Sydney to Derby.
  • Looking at different patterns and images associated with Aboriginal art and creating our own pictures.
  • In English lessons this term we will be focusing on the story of 'Grandad's Island' by Benji Davies, before moving on to poetry linked to our five senses.
  • In Mathematics, the children will be continuing to learn about practical multiplication and division. We will then move on to developing knowledge and skills relating to fractions (halves and quarters of shapes and quantities), time and money.
  • In computing lessons, the children will be developing their programming skills by using Scratch Junior and creating their own algorithms.

You can help your child at home this term by;

  • Reading at least 4 times a week.
  • Practicing spellings as often as possible, so that your child is prepared for our weekly spelling check each Friday.

Please can you also ensure that your child has their PE kit in school every day.

Remember sun safety; hat, water bottle and suncream please!
