School Dinners

All infant aged pupils are currently eligible for free school dinners in England. 80% of our pupils enjoy a school dinner each day at The Brigg and the food is fresh, varied and tasty.  We can easily cater for food allergies and special dietary requirements - just let us know and complete a special diet form.

Our current menu is available by clicking here.

Other children choose to bring healthy packed lunches from home and we have a full guide for parents on what should be included.  In the main, no nuts are allowed, no sweets or chocolate bars (except for chocolate biscuits such as club, penguin, kit kat), no fizzy drinks or glass bottles please.

Free School Meals and Pupil Premium Benefits

Although all infant pupils receive free school meals at the moment, some children are eligible for free school meals at junior and secondary schools too, saving £400 per year per child in the future!  Our school also receives extra Pupil Premium funding of £1300 a year per child from the government for each child on free school meals.  We use this to give your child extra support in and out of the classroom, free milk and other benefits (see our pupil premium page for more details).

If you get any of these benefits, you could be eligible:

  • Income Support
  • Income based on Job Seekers Allowance or an Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • The guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit (with an annual income of less than £16,190)

You will not be eligible if you are claiming Working Tax Credit.

To apply go to www.derbyshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals and fill in the form, or come and see us in the school office where we will gladly help you with any queries.  All information will be treated with sensitivity and confidentiality.
