To apply for a place

Children due to start in the academic year 2019-2020

Date of birth: - 1st September 2014 to 31st August 2015

The Local Authority is required to co-ordinate admissions to all Derbyshire Primary, Infant and Junior schools for the academic year. Essentially the Authority acts as a ‘clearing house’ for all admissions and enables parents to express a preference for one, two or three schools and to place those preferences in rank order. Parents must make their application on a common application form, to be returned direct to the LA and give reasons for their preferred schools.

If you have not yet applied for a place you have until the 30th August 2018. After this date you will have to apply as an in-year admission.

To apply

  • online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk
  • or through Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058
  • or by post, paper forms are available on request from Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058.

Full information on school admissions will be available in the How to apply for a place at primary school - a guide for parents' section of the website (www.derbyshire.gov.uk) during this time.

If you want to apply to change your child's school at any other time you can find information about how to do this in the changing schools section of the Derbyshire website.

Children who join this school transfer from South Normanton Nursery School, South Normanton Pre-School, Private Nurseries or other Early Years settings. In order to facilitate as smooth a transfer as possible, all children visit The Brigg during their final term. Parents are invited to an induction meeting during the term prior to their child joining the school. This provides an opportunity to hear more about the school, ask questions and meet future class teachers. Parents who move into the area are very welcome to visit in order to view the school and discuss details. Also do call school to book a place at our open day for parents and careers of new starters in October each year (morning, afternoon and evening sessions are available).  If you cannot make this date, do call the school for a personal appointment.  See our diary dates for details.

The Junior School to which the children normally transfer is Glebe Junior School. We have strong links with the school and have a comprehensive and exciting transfer programme during the year that ensures that the Y2 children are happy and confident about the next step in their school life.
